Most travelers include a Suzhou day trip when they travel to Shanghai. Although it is possible, I recommend staying for at least a night just like what we did. You’ll get to explore more without feeling rushed. You’ll also be able to enjoy your trip more. The only problem with staying for a night is you don’t have an idea where to stay. That won’t be a problem though since I’ll be sharing where we stayed in Suzhou as well as other suggestions. If you are traveling to China, there are also several wonderful Discover China tours available.

If you have no idea where to stay, Suzhou Sun Plaza Hotel is a great choice. We also stayed here during our trip. It is located in Shantang Street so it is also just a 5 minutes walk to the Shantang Street night market. The location is also perfect since it is also just a 3 minutes walk from Shi Lu Station.
How to get there?
If you are traveling from Shanghai, you can take the high-speed train from either Shanghai station or Hongqiao Railway Station to Suzhou Railway Station. We took the train from the Hongqiao Railway Station since the train arrives every 5 minutes.
When you arrive at Suzhou Railway Station, you need to transfer to line 2 to take the train to Shi Lu station. It is only two train station stops away. Suzhou Sun Plaza Hotel is just a walking distance from Shi Lu Station.
This is what you’ll see the moment you enter the room. My first impression was, this looked much better and much spacious than the photos on their website. I love Suzhou Sun Plaza Hotel because it is very affordable for a 4-star hotel. We paid 397.60 CNY (56.81 USD or 2875.00 PHP) for one night. Suzhou Sun Plaza is really a great value, it is very spacious and it can also accommodate up to four people.
The beds were also really big and spacious. They were also very comfortable. The beds looked much bigger in real life than in these photos. They also offer free wifi but we find it too slow, none of us were able to use it. Fortunately, we booked wifi for China during our trip.
There are also several cabinet compartments below the television to store some of your things. There are also lots of drawers on the desks. Just make sure to check each compartment before you check out so you won’t forget anything and leave some of your stuff.
The room also has two couches and a small coffee table, perfect for when you want to have a snack and just enjoy the view from your room.
Each room also provides two bathrobes for guests. They can be found in the wardrobe. There’s also a safe box so if you have valuables with you, you can place them in the safebox.
Most hotels I have booked on our trips usually have a small bathroom. The bathroom in Suzhou Sun Plaza Hotel is really big and spacious though. There’s also a bathtub which not all hotel has. There’s also a separate shower cubicle.
My most favorite part about this bathroom is that it has a very spacious sink area. Other hotels I have booked before had a smaller sink, so it has been a struggle to place my skincare products.
They also provide some toiletries for their guests. You don’t have to worry if you forgot to pack shampoo and conditioner since they provide them for you. Disposable toothbrushes, hand soap, shower gels, combs, hair caps and many more are also provided for their guests.
The view of this room is just amazing. Out of all the hotels I have stayed at, Suzhou Sun Plaza has the best view. It has a beautiful view of Suzhou, you can also see the high-speed train from your room, and it is also even more beautiful at night.
There’s nobody in the lobby of the hotel which confused us. You actually need to take the elevator to the second floor where you’ll see the reception area.
I took this photo outside the hotel at around 6 A.M and the sun was just rising. It’s so beautiful even without a filter.
Old Town Area
The old town area is perfect for you if you are interested to visit the tourist sites or the main attractions. If you want to visit Humble Administrator’s Garden, Suzhou Museum, Pingjuang Road, Couple’s Retreat Garden, and others, then I suggest you choose a hotel in the old town area.
Hotel Soul Suzhou was actually my first choice and I have already booked it for our trip. Unfortunately, there was a change of plans and we needed to change the dates for our trip and it was already sold out for our new dates. What made this hotel my first choice is that they offer free shuttle service to the Humble Administrator’s Garden as well as to Suzhou Railway Station which is really great. I’ll definitely stay here when we have the chance to visit Suzhou next time. Hopefully, it won’t be sold out again.
If you want to stay in a luxury hotel, then Garden Hotel Suzhou is perfect for you. It is one of the top-rated hotels in Suzhou so you need to book earlier. It is just a walking distance to the Master of the Nets Garden and it is also near Shiquan Street.
Suzhou Industrial Park Area
Most luxury accommodations can be found in the Suzhou Industrial Park area. This area is actually considered to have the best hotels in Suzhou. It is also near the famous Jinji Lake and Dushu Lake. There are also a lot of shopping and entertainment activities here such as luxury malls.
This is one of the most luxurious hotels you can find in Suzhou. It is also walking distance to the Times Square entertainment and shopping district. It is also near the Jinji lake which is really great.
The characteristics of Suzhou classical gardens have been included in the design of the rooms. The room also has a floor-to-ceiling glass window that can give you a beautiful view of Taihu Lake and Suzhou.
