Every summer, our church invites the youth to join youth conferences. Last year, the delegates from our church, United Evangelical Church of Marbel attended the Mindanao Conference 2018 held at Davao Christian School, Davao City. This year, we attended the 38th Filipino Chinese Christian Foundation Nationwide Youth Conference 2019 held at Chali Beach Resort, Cagayan de Oro.
The camp lasted around 5 days. Marbel is very far from Cagayan de Oro that’s why the delegates from our church together with the delegates of our sister church, United Evangelical Church of Gensan traveled to Cagayan de Oro together one day earlier. It was an eight to nine hour travel bus ride. Upon arrival, we headed to local destinations; one of some famed is the Centio Mall where we had taken our stroll. After which, we headed back to Oro Christian Grace School, the place where we will stay for the night.
The next morning, we woke up early and had our breakfast in 7/11 then afterwards headed to Chali Beach resort where we would kick-off the camp. The first thing we did was to register and claim our notebooks and identification cards that will be essentials to the event.
We were given the keys to our rooms assigned. A bulletin board by the lobby allowed us to navigate our respective rooms. Fortunately for us, all the female delegates from our church are together in one room.
It was about 10 A.M when we got inside our room, we just took a quick nap before heading for lunch. The opening ceremony was supposed to start at 2:15 pm but since the flight of other delegates were delayed, they moved it to 3:15 pm.

Once the opening ceremony was done, we had some games, the first one is you need to play rock, paper, scissor with delegates that is not from your church and whoever wins, will get the sticker of their opponent and stick it to their faces. Once the emcees will say stop, whoever has stickers left wins and will be able to get prizes if they can remember three names who they have played with, those who no longer have stickers left will proceed to their seats.
The second game that we played, we group to our respective churches and create a costume from limited resources using newspaper and plastic bags that is related to our theme “TRUE REVIVAL”
After the games, it was dinner time, the dining area is just beside the beach. Once we have finished dinner, it was time to head back to the main hall to listen to our theme speaker, BSOP Vice President, Rev. Anthony Hao. Our main theme was “True Revival” and our theme verse was :
1 Thessalonians 1:4-5 For we know, brothers love by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you, not only in word, but also in power and in the holy spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among for your sake
We have learned from him that we as christians, need to have an active and mature faith. We also need to have a contagious faith so that when others can see us and how we act and serve the Lord, they too, will be inspired to have faith in the Lord.
After the sessions, we went to our respective counseling group, to talk and share about what we have learned from the speaker.
On the second day, after breakfast and before the start of the sessions, we also meet up with our counseling group to talk and share more about our faith in Christ.
The speaker for the morning was Dr. Joyce Piap Go, one of her topics was “Setting the Standards before you say I Do”. We have learned that we should not compromise our standards for our partners and to not have a lot of intimacy before marriage. One of the important things she has taught us is that girls should never give husband privileges to their boyfriend. A lot might disagree on that but that is the right thing to do.
All the delegates wore a blue shirt that day because we will have our photo taken.
Our free time is during the afternoons, we can explore the resort and visit the beach side. Our favorite part was the beach side area especially during late afternoon where we can enjoy the beautiful sunset.
On the third and fourth morning, our speaker was Mr Jayson Lo, speaker, author and entrepreneur. He talked about how each one of us has a distinct personality that makes us YOUnique. He shared that each person has a different personality whether you are the Dominant Eagle, Corrective Tarsier, the Influential Roster or the Steady Carabao. Since each of us are YOUnique, we should learn how to adapt to other people who has different personality from us.
We have bought his books and he has kindly signed it for us during the break.
You can also follow him at https://www.instagram.com/jaysonlo/
I bought his book YOUNIQUELY in LOVE. In this book, he writes about loving others the way they want to be loved. He shared in this book how you get along with your partner who is unlike you and how you get past your differences. This book applies the four YOUnique personalities in singlehood, dating and marriage.
During one of the afternoons, we have schedule for our one on one counseling session with our counselors. We can share about anything we want, from our struggles with backsliding in our faith, to how we deal with criticisms against us Christians to just anything. The counselors can help and guide us in our faith with the Lord.
The rest of the free time, we just mostly spent on just enjoying the sunset at the beach
One of the great things about joining this conferences is that aside from learning more about God’s word and strengthening your relationship with Him, you can also meet other delegates from different churches around the Philippines.
During the final night of the conference is the commitment night. There are three options, accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior for the first time, recommit your life to Jesus and commit your life to the Lord full time. If you accept Jesus as your Savior for the first time, you stick the heart shaped sticker, if you recommit, you stick the church sticker, and if you commit to the Lord full time you stick the cross sticker.
After the commitment night, we had our closing ceremony and praise night. The FCCF officers has also shared the idea of giving tips to the one who works at Chali Beach Resort who made our stay comfortable and just the idea of blessing them. So they collected any amount from delegates who wants to share their blessings and gave it to them during our closing ceremony
We usually have a curfew every night but since it was the final night, our curfew was later so that we can still have more time to mingle with other delegates from other churches.
The final morning, we just had our breakfast before waiting for our transportation back to Oro Grace Christian School since we will be staying one more night before we leave the next morning. We hang out at Centrio Mall the whole afternoon and had dinner with the Vigan delegates before going back to the school.
It was a fun five day conference and we hope that we can apply what we have learned from the camp to our life. Hopefully we do not just apply them a week or a month after the camp then soon we will forget them but we just continue to apply them on our daily life. Can’t wait for the Mindanao Conference 2020 next year that will be held at Zamboanga City
